Casablanca
on the Ocean
This oceanfront hotel is in North Beach, just 5 miles
from the Art Deco district of South Beach and 3 miles
from upscale Bal Harbour shopping. Built in 1954 and
renovated in 1996 as a 10 floor, 273 room hotel/condominium,
all 150 guestrooms have full kitchenettes and water
views. The hotel offers direct access to a wide beach,
and a large heated pool is surrounded by a spacious
pool deck. 2,000 square feet of flexible function
space for fine banquets, business reunions or special
occasions. A small fitness room provides the basics
for fitness-conscious guests.

Essex
House Hotel
When the sun comes up with the suddenness of a tropical
dawn, it rises over the Atlantic Ocean, over the cruise
ships and tankers waiting on the horizon to enter
the Port of Miami, and it shines most brilliantly
on the Nation's only Art Deco District. The Essex
House Hotel & Suites is endowed with a colorful
history and an abundance of Art Deco detail. Designed
by Henry Hohauser and built in 1938, the Essex House
& Suites is said to be one of Hohauser's best
designs. The hotel has been painted to bring out its
Nautical Modern quality. Visitors must take note of
the lobby's original polychrome mural of the Everglades
which was restored by the original artist, Earl LaPan,
50 years after he originally painted the mural.

Nash
The Hotel Nash opened in late December 1999, with
an emphasis on superb comfort, elegant style, and
attentive personal service. Built in 1935, the Nashs
facade has been masterfully restored to the Art Deco
era. The hotels lobby is decorated in a palette
of beige and furnished with plush club chairs, historic
stone wainscoting, and the original terrazzo floors.
The 54 guest rooms are havens of soothing sage-green
and ivory, custom furnished with shield-shaped armoires,
and lounge beds. Beautiful studies of local flora
adorn the rooms walls. Spacious green-tiled
bathrooms are equipped with Calcutta-marble vanities,
and rainforest showerheads.

What to expect: This 790-room oceanfront hotel
comprises the restored, 1930s Art Deco St. Moritz
hotel and aa adjacent, contemporary, 18-story tower.
Giant columns, high ceilings, sky domes with cloud
formations, sunken lounge spaces, and marble flooring
create a modern Art Deco style in the tower lobby.
Clientele includes business types attending on-site
conferences, as their families take advantage of the
pool, beach, weather, and the Miami scene. Amenity
highlights: The centerpiece of the hotel is a
150,000-gallon freeform pool with a central waterfall
creating a peaceful aesthetic. The pool has a zero-entry

What to expect: The Sheraton Bal Harbour is
set on 10 palm-filled, oceanfront acres across the
street from the upscale Bal Harbour Shops. A large
chandelier sparkles high above the two-story, marble-walled
lobby, where a busy registration and concierge desk
welcomes leisure and business travelers.
Amenity highlights: Family-friendly amenities
include a lagoon-style water complex with bridges,
waterfalls, five outdoor splash pools, a childrens
pool, a Kids Club activity center, and two spa
tubs with waterfalls. A fitness center offers aerobics

Collins Avenue overlooking the white-sand beaches

the retro feel of classic Miami Beach hotels. With

25-story ceiling, the lobby welcomes business and

Winterhaven
Hotel
The WinterHaven Hotel, the newest hotel on Ocean Drive,
is now open following a two-year, top-to-bottom renovation
of its dramatic lobby and guest rooms. The hotel,
located at Ocean Drive and 14th Street, is directly
across the street from the Atlantic Ocean, and features
ocean views from most of its guest rooms.
The 1939 Art Deco jewel, designed by top Deco architect
Albert Anis, offers South Beach rarities: five-star
hotel service, refined and tasteful surroundings,
and a quiet corner location four blocks north of the
Ocean Drive hubbub. All guestrooms are decorated in
custom designed Art Deco style furniture upholstered
in soothing tones of soft green, ginger and cream.
